We’re doing something unique this week… We’re going to be embedded with a 2-car team that are doing the 2022 Gumball3000 that starts in Toronto. They’re coming in from Germany and we’re picking them up at the airport, getting the car + truck ready and prepped for the rally (it’s NOT a race). We’ll see the car and truck at the same time they see them for the first time…
We’ve had an interesting week… first we got to spend some behind the wheel of the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, and then 2 days later we had the opportunity to take the Ford Mustang Mach-E – Ford’s first-ever 100% electric vehicle, and the All-New Bronco Sport Big Bend out for a spin. With COVID continuing to put a stranglehold on my usual manufacturer-supplied test vehicles, I really appreciate Grimsby Ford providing me the opportunity for this all too brief, but very enjoyable test-drive. While we only got a quick spin around the block, these are two very impressive vehicles. Stay tuned for a full-blown road test in the future.)
For a number of years I’ve been trying to get a Tesla for a test drive, but their media people have been AWOL – even when I had their actual email address, I was ignored. So how did we get this test drive? Patience really. I signed up on their website for a Tesla Test Drive Event – where they actually come to you – or close to you, and let you get behind the wheel of the vehicle of your choice for 30 minutes or so. Since I’m an Auto Journalist, I took the opportunity and asked to drive both the 3 and the Y so I could write an article, and they were happy to oblige!
On one of our numerous trips to Germany, we had the unique opportunity of getting a ride in the LaFerrari supercar… oddly enough, we’ve never posted the video here on Road-Test – even though it’s been on our YouTube page since 2016!!! With more than 55,660 views, it’s been pretty popular, to say the least! Well, we’ve corrected that oversight and you can now get a look at it right here.
It’s not a matter of you MIGHT get one – you WILL be getting one! At some point in the very near-future the EV will be cheaper to purchase/lease than a regular ICE (Internal Combustible Engine) vehicle WITHOUT government incentives. If you want to put off the inevitable as long as possible, it’ll probably be around 2024-2025 – that’s only 6 years from now! Take the time to watch this brief video and you’ll understand that it’s a lot closer than you think before we’re all driving electric.
