Toyota And The Runaway Vehicles – Road Test Special

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past 6 months or so, you already know all about the problems and media-induced panic that has been attached to Toyota vehicles. It all started with a California Police Officer driving a loaner Lexus. Apparently, the car kept speeding up until it reached 150 mph (241km/h) whereupon he drove it right into a bridge – killing himself, his wife, daughter and brother-in-law. Before destroying a perfectly good Lexus in a ball of fire, his brother-in-law thought it would be a good idea to call emergency services for some advice. I can’t believe that with all of those people combined – their I.Q. didn’t quite reach up to the level of a worm. C’mon people… if you can’t stop the vehicle, bump the gear selector into “N”.. that means neutral – all power is then taken away from the driving wheels. Apply the brakes, pull over to the side of the road and switch off the ignition. That makes a lot more sense than killing yourself. Even …

2010 Lexus RX 450h (Hybrid) – Road Test

It’s been a couple of years since I last drove the Lexus RX hybrid. It was so outstanding my wife and I wanted to trade our first-born for one.. too bad we only had a chinchilla to trade. For the 2010 model, Lexus have re-designed the RX from the ground up… sounds like the perfect reason to grab the keys and see if it can measure up to the previous model.

2007 Audi Q7 4.2 – Road Test

The Q7 is Audi’s first-ever SUV (they don’t count the All-Road as one) and they’ve done a superb job on their first attempt. The Audi version of the VW Touareg stands out in a crowd thanks to is bold-as-brass schnoz and huge 20” tires. Having a very capable stable-mate at their disposal, Audi tarted it up and then went over the top to create the Q7 – a truly top-of-the-line SUV worthy of its price-tag and prestige marque.

2007 Volvo XC90 3.2 AWD – Road Test

Mention the word Volvo and thoughts of boxy, extremely safe and boring vehicles run through most people’s minds. From a manufacturer’s point of view, that’s a bit unflattering – even if it is true. Fortunately for the consumer, Volvo seems to be taking note of these stereotypes and is breaking out of the box instead of designing boxes. It all started with the first generation C-70 coupe and has continually progressed over the years to the subject of this week’s Road Test – the XC90. The XC90 is Volvo’s first foray into the already crowded SUV market.

2007 Chrysler Aspen Limited – Road Test

Chrysler’s first SUV is pretty late arriving to the party. Just about every manufacturer out there has had a luxury Sports Utility Vehicle in the marketplace for a number of years; in fact there are some that are on their second and third-generation versions at this point. With America’s thirst for bigger and more luxurious SUV’s, Chrysler can’t be blamed for trying to get a piece of the action, and the Aspen certainly fits the bill perfectly. As George Murphy, Senior Vice President of Chrysler’s Global Marketing puts it this way: “The all-new 2007 Chrysler Aspen offers customers guilt-free indulgence. Loaded with premium features, a fuel-saving
