It’s been a while since we drove an Escape Hybrid – 13 years to be exact! Partly it was because Ford discontinued the hybrid version, and partly because we never came away from the experience overly impressed. I just went back and re-read my article and it was less than complimentary (sorry Ford) about the interior plastics among other things. One thing is for sure, Ford has definitely improved enormously in the past few years when it comes to the plastics in most of their vehicles.
Battery swapping was once considered unsustainable option for charging EV’s, but the world’s largest battery supplier – CATL is now launching an entire business around it. The company is called Evogo and they claim they can do a battery swap in around a minute.

During the lockdown we were helping my brother-in-law, who works as the sales manager at the local Ford dealership, move trucks to/from other dealerships, so we’ve got plenty of experience with them. Having driven the 2020 Ford Explorer a few times this year, although I liked it, I certainly didn’t love it. Truth be told the Hyundai Palisade did it so much better, and for less money. When I picked up the key fob for the Lincoln Aviator Reserve I was thinking it might be equal to the Palisade – but with an even bigger price bump than the Explorer. Two minutes behind the wheel and I knew right away my preconceptions were wrong, oh so wrong.
What happens when the Ford/Lincoln designers forget that they don’t work for BMW/Mercedes? They create vehicles like the 2020 Lincoln Corsair. I’m serious – this Corsair feels and drives just like a BMW/Mercedes. Remove the badges and no one would be able to tell the difference on the inside – especially if you blindfolded them and sat them in the front seats. Ford have really stepped up their game with the Lincoln lineup. No longer is it just a tiny bit more luxurious than the Ford equivalent – it’s a completely different vehicle! They share the platform, but that’s it – everything else is luxury dialed up to 11, but DO NOT call it a grandpa’s Lincoln with thoughts of floaty suspension and overly boosted power steering – those days are thankfully long gone.
The Nissan LEAF has been around since the 2010 model year. It got a complete makeover from top to bottom last year and alongside the new looks, it also got bigger batteries and a much-improved range – making it far more useful than ever before. Although I’d never driven one, it was firmly on our list as possibly the next car in our driveway when our present lease was up. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on one for a week, but now I have. One thing for sure is – it didn’t disappoint.
