2020 Nissan Sentra SR (Premium) – Road Test

It’s been a while since I had a compact car to drive – other than our own, now departed Ford Focus. Ford may have abandoned the auto landscape in search of people who want trucks and CUV/SUV’s, but there is still a huge market for affordable, reliable cars that don’t cost as much as your mortgage every month. It took Ford 8 years to realize they made a mistake by cancelling the Ranger – maybe they’ve made another poor decision, only with cars this time. Regardless, we’re in the market for a new car and the Nissan Sentra is the type of car that fits into the price point we’re comfortable with. We’ve never even remotely considered the Sentra before now. Why? It’s just never been anywhere near our radar. Will this week’s test drive change our minds? Let’s find out…

2010 Mazda RX-8 R3 – Road Test

A number of years ago I drove the Mazda RX-8 and fell in love with it! It was my favourite car for well over a year before another came along and knocked it from the top spot on my list. From that point on I seemed to have a new “favourite” car on a very regular basis. So, what made the RX-8 so great that it held the top spot for so long, yet no other car has been my favourite for any more than a couple of months? If I drove it again today would I be just as enamoured with it, or was it really just a passing fancy? We’re about to find out…..

2011 Mazda6 GT – Road Test

It’s been a number of years since I last drove a Mazda6 – well when I say the 6, I really mean the awesome MazdaSpeed6. For the 2010 model year Mazda re-designed the 6, making it bigger in every dimension and I have to say it’s better looking too. Unfortunately, after spending a week with the Mazda6, it left this writer indifferent. The mid-sized sedan segment of the automotive landscape is the toughest area to do battle, so a car has to not only look good, but it has to excel in order to get noticed. I was really looking forward to driving the Mazda6 GT, but perhaps because it was in non-descript Silver, I never really felt myself looking forward to driving it or excited about having it sitting in the driveway.

2011 Mazda MX-5 GT – Road Test

In 1989 Mazda introduced the MX-5 to the world (or Miata as it was known in North America) and in one fell swoop gave us something we didn’t know was possible – an affordable, reliable and fun-to-drive roadster. Sure, we’ve had fun little, sporty, and even sometimes affordable roadsters in the past… but only in the traditional British and Italian sense… with continual break downs to the extent that the owner also had to learn to be a mechanic!
